Patient Assistant Transport Scheme

Patient Assistant Transport Scheme

Through the SA Patient Assisted Transport Scheme (PATS) eligible country patients and their escort may be reimbursed for some travel and accommodation costs. This applies when SA families need to travel more than 100 kilometres (each way) to receive specialist medical treatment not available at a closer centre.

People who meet the PATS criteria will need to pay the first $30 of eligible travel costs.  If you do not hold a current Concession or Health Care Card, you will have to pay the full cost of the first night’s accommodation.  You will also need to pay any amount over the eligible accommodation benefit.

Application forms are available from:

  • regional PATS offices (see below for details)
  • local GPs and hospitals
  • WCH Paediatric Social Work (8161 7381)
  • WCH Women's Social Work (8161 7580)

Your local doctor should sign your form before you travel to see your specialist.

Ask your doctor if you will need an escort so that you will know in advance whether some of the costs of your escort can be covered
