The Antenatal Day Assessment Unit provides care for women experiencing a high-risk pregnancy, who require assessment, monitoring or education. Women attend the Unit as day patients.
Conditions frequently managed in the Unit include gestational diabetes, mild pre-eclampsia, and women with a fetus at risk and needing regular monitoring. Women with premature ruptured membranes can come to the Unit as day patients for twice weekly monitoring, thus avoiding lengthy admissions to the ward. A small number of gynaecology and postnatal patients can also attend the Unit for short stay procedures.
The service is primarily for women who live in the metropolitan area. The Unit is staffed by midwives, who work in conjunction with medical staff, dieticians and social workers.
Referrals are accepted from Women's Outpatient
Department,
Women's
Assessment Service,
Antenatal Gynaecology

to the Unit. All admissions are coordinated through
Women's
Admissions.
