Discharge Advice for Parents after Day Case Surgery
1. If your child and family live further than 1 hour drive from this hospital, prior arrangements must be made for your child to stay in Adelaide on the night after discharge from hospital.
2. Public transport is not recommended. Transport home should be by private vehicle or taxi. When travelling home by car, a second responsible adult should be present to allow you to care for your child on the way home.
3. Your child should reduce their activities during the next 24 hours and be kept in a safe situation under adult supervision to help them fully recover from the anaesthetic and procedure.
4. Your child may return to school when fully recovered from the anaesthetic and as recommended by their surgeon.
5. Paracetamol (Panadol), if required for pain relief, may be continued 4 to 6 hourly for 24 hours or as recommended by the surgeon. If your child's pain relief is not adequate please contact your child's family doctor or surgeon.
