Paediatric Anaesthesia DepartmentAdmission Instructions for Parents of Children having Day Case SurgeryFasting / What can your child eat before admission ?Children older than 6 months of ageYour child should eat normally on the day before surgery. If your child's admission is scheduled for 7am - light snack or milk drink after dinner and any time up to 2.30am - 1 small glass of water or weak cordial between 2.30am and 6.30am If your child's admission is scheduled for 11am - a light breakfast of toast and milk fluids may be given until 7am - 1 small glass of water or weak cordial between 7am and 11am Babies less than 6 months of ageYour child should eat normally on the day before surgery If your child's admission is scheduled for 7am - breast or bottle milk may be given up to 4.30am - a small amount of water may be given between 4.30am and 6.30am If your child's admission is scheduled for 11am - breast or bottle milk may be given up to 9am - a small amount of water may be given between 9am and 11am AdmissionMost children having a procedure requiring a general anaesthetic are admitted to the Paediatric Day of Surgery Admission (DOSA) Unit, 3rd floor Kermode Street entrance.
