Cerebral Palsy Register

The South Australian Cerebral Palsy Register (SACPR) is a population-based collection of information on children with cerebral palsy born in South Australia . The term cerebral palsy describes a group of permanent and non-progressive disorders of movement and posture that manifest early in life and result from a defect or lesion of the immature brain.

At around 5 years of age, each child who is included on the SACPR, is invited to attend a medical assessment. A comprehensive medical history is obtained and the child has a formal medical assessment to ensure that the diagnosis of cerebral palsy is correct, to document the type and severity of the disorder, and to define the disabilities experienced by the child.

Details of children with cerebral palsy are ascertained through notifications to the South Australian Birth Defects Register. For a child's details to be included on the SACPR, parental consent is required. All information contained on the SACPR is strictly confidential.

The SACPR produces the South Australian Cerebral Palsy Register Annual Report. The SACPR is located in the South Australian Clinical Genetics Service, Department of Genetic Medicine at the WCH.
