Department of Genetic MedicineThe Department of Genetic Medicine was formed in 2003 when the Departments of Chemical Pathology and Laboratory Genetics from the Division of Laboratory Medicine, and the SA Clinical Genetics Service from the Division of Paediatric Medicine joined forces. The new department provides an integrated clinical and laboratory health service for South Australians with genetic disorders, their families and doctors. The Department will also increase opportunities for cooperative activity in clinical service provision, genetic testing and research, and for marketing services nationally and internationally. The Department works towards reducing the effect of genetic disorders on the health of the community through diagnosis and screening, counselling, clinical management, education, technology development, research and provision of prevalence data.
