Aboriginal Youth Mental Health Partnership Project

The Aboriginal Youth Mental Health Partnership Project works with young Aboriginal people who are involved or may become involved in the juvenile justice system and for whom concerns exist regarding their mental health and/or emotional well being.  A CAMHS worker is based in the CAMHS Western Region and provides

  • clinical services
  • training and development
  • networking
  • service development.

The objectives of the project are

  • to increase the capacity of the Metropolitan Aboriginal Youth Team
  • to respond to Aboriginal young people with special needs relating to mental health and emotional well being
  • to increase the level of access by Aboriginal young people and their families to mental health and related services
  • to improve access to and appropriateness of CAMHS services for Aboriginal people
  • to identify unmet needs and emerging trends and to provide learning which can inform service developments in related areas.

The project is a link between

  • Aboriginal services
  • Western CAMHS
  • and other relevant community agencies.
