Secure Care Services (Magill / Cavan Training Centres)

CAMHS provides a range of services for young offenders in secure care centres. Services include the provision of visiting psychiatrist, mental health nurse and indigenous child and adolescent mental health workers. The workers aim to provide the following services

Psychiatry/Mental Health Link Nurse

  • Provide timely psychiatric assessment and consultative services to the secure care units
  • Provide risk assessment to young people with advice on management of these young people
  • Provide mental health assessments and counselling/therapy for young people within secure care
  • Facilitate access to mental health services both within the secure care facility and following release
  • Provide consultation services staff working within secure care facilities
  • Actively participation facilitating ongoing staff development and training on a formal and informal level
  • Act as a resource for secure care staff in relation to mental health and the management of the presentation of the young people
  • Participate in case conferences and contribute to management plans

Aboriginal Mental Health Consultants

  • Facilitate access to child adolescent mental health services and other supports for Indigenous youth in secure care
  • To provide support and develop positive relationships with Indigenous youth in secure care
  • Increase appropriate cultural links to Indigenous youth in secure care and their families
  • Support mental health services youth training services staff to provide culturally appropriate services
  • Promote acceptance of cultural spirituality and well being approach within child adolescent mental health services
  • Increase awareness of mental health issues with workers in other Indigenous services
