Orthotics

Orthotics - Paediatric Allied Health

Orthotics is the term used to describe the profession of patient care that uses orthoses.  An orthosis is a single external body support that can be applied to any part of the body to help musculo-skeletal problems. Designs and materials vary depending on the particular problem but othoses are generally lightweight, durable and as cosmetic as possible.

Orthotic staff assess patients and then design, measure, supply and fit orthotic appliances. The staff also provide education and follow-up in the management of orthotic devices.

Services are provided for inpatients and outpatients.

How to access the service

Written referrals are accepted from accredited Medical Practitioners of the WCH. We will let you know your appointment time once we have received the referral.

Information for families

Treatment can be provided for all children and women who are eligible for WCH services including inpatients and outpatients.

After an initial assessment is made, an individual management plan is developed.

There is no costs to inpatients for orthotics services.

Outpatients must pay a charge based on the cost of materials for orthoses. Health care card holders, pensioners and people with a disability allowance are charged a maximum of $50.  For all other people the maximum charge is $150.  If you pay at the time you receive the orthoses you will receive a 20% discount.
