Occupational Therapy - Paediatric Allied Health

WCH Occupational Therapists work with babies, children, adolescents and their families with a range of medical conditions to help them develop normally and participate in everyday activities at home, pre-school and school.

Occupational Therapists provide assessment, treatment and advice focussing on how children are developing skills in

  • attention
  • sensory processing
  • self-care
  • hand function
  • play.

This allows children to adapt to situations and their environment and helps learning, appropriate behaviour and interactions with people.

Occupational Therapists provide an integrated, client focussed service for families, schools and the broader community. An ongoing commitment to research and program development enables the provision of services that are efficient, effective and of a high quality.

Services are provided for inpatients and outpatients.

How to access the service

Written referrals are accepted from WCH doctors, private paediatricians and general practitioners. We will let you know your appointment time once we have received the referral.

Information for families

After an initial assessment is made, a management plan is developed. Outpatients often attend weekly therapy sessions.
