General MedicineThe Department of General Medicine in one form or another is the oldest medical department in the hospital and was established at the foundation of the Adelaide Children's Hospital. The Department runs the largest inpatient paediatric service in the hospital and sees outpatients both at the North Adelaide site and its satellite clinic at The Parks Community Health Service. We have strong links with other paediatric units in the city and care for patients referred from these units. We also provide support to paediatricians in country areas of the state as well as Mildura, Broken Hill and Alice Springs. How to access the serviceA written referral should be faxed to the Outpatient Department fax (08) 81616246 for public patients and (08) 8161 6447 for private patients wishing to see Drs Pearson, Ketteridge and Machet. Information for families The Department assesses paediatric medical problems across a broad spectrum and works closely with various subspecialty units of the hospital. The work of the Department covers not only physical disease but also behavioural issues. Each consultant member has a slightly different emphasis in their areas of practice. When you come for an appointment, please bring your child's health record (blue book) and any other information you might have about your child's health such as letters from other doctors, test results etc. If you are worried about your child's development or behaviour then school reports, letters from your child's teacher and similar information can be very useful for the doctor seeing your child.
