Research Activity

The Paediatric Rehabilitation Department of the Women's and Children's Hospital undertakes research in paediatric rehabilitation to assist with the evaluation and advancement of science, technology, and therapy practices that are central in managing children with cognitive and physical disabilities.  It is a priority of this department that all staff can be supported to participate in research activities.

Current research interests include:

1.  Defining the movement disorder classification for a population based cohort of children with cerebral palsy.

2.  The effect of chronic illness on the ability of adolescents to drive a motor vehicle.

3.  The progression of motor development in children with cerebral palsy between 5 and 10 years of age.

4.  The effects of mild traumatic brain injury in children.

Collaboration with other research units is an area for further development.  Students wanting to undertake projects in paediatric rehabilitation are welcome to contact us on 08 8161 7367.

Fortnightly meetings are held with the department to discuss the approach to rehabilitation research, and to provide advice about the suitability of proposed projects within the department.  Membership of this group is open to all staff within the department.  As the research meetings have been recently established, initial work is being undertaken to determine the scope and duties of the meeting, with a focus on advancing research projects within the department.
