Emergency After Hours Dental Care

Dental emergencies include (but are not limited to) pain, spreading dental infection and dental trauma.  Prompt dental advice and treatment can reduce discomfort, improve outcomes and is reassuring for children and parents.

WCH dental staff are available after hours to provide advice to medical staff treating children with dental emergencies and are available to provide treatment for eligible patients where necessary.

The following options are also available for urgent dental treatment:

Government funded after hours dental services

The South Australian Dental Service (SADS) via the child's school dental service provides after hours care until 10pm for children under 18 years provided they are enrolled with SADS.

For children who have private dental insurance for whom the cost of treatment will be privately paid

A number of options are available:

• The child's private dental practitioner
• Dental practitioners listed in the telephone directory may provide after hours emergency dental care
• The WCH 'on call' dental consultant may be available to provide emergency dental treatment for privately funded patients.  Contact via the WCH switchboard phone (08) 8161 7000.
