Day of Surgery AdmissionsMost babies, children or adolescents are admitted on the day of surgery via the DOSA (Day of Surgery Admissions) area. The admission process involves a nursing admission, clerical admission and a review by an anaesthetist and sometimes the surgeon prior to the commencement of surgery. Theatre sessions are split into two start times, 8.30am start and 1.00pm start. Morning theatre sessions - your child will be admitted at 7am and your child will go the theatre between 8.00am and 12.00pm. Afternoon theatre sessions - your child will be admitted at 11.00am and will go to theatre between 1.00pm and 3.30pm. The reason for early admit times is due to the admission process described above. Please note, your child will be sent to theatre depending on surgical requirement and age, not in order of arrival to the DOSA unit. After surgery, your child will go to the Recovery Area until they are fully awake and will then be brought back to their post operative destination by a nurse and theatre orderly. The DOSA area was developed in 2002 thanks to the generosity of Mr. Frank Gilford, in memory of his sister Yvonne Gilford, as well as many other individual donors. Information for FamiliesWe welcome the involvement of parents and caregivers while your child is in hospital. If your child is admitted to the hospital for a surgical procedure, you can ask nursing staff for additional information.
