Ear, Nose and Throat Clinical Nurse Consultant
Outline
The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Clinical Nurse Consultant:
- Provides education and support to children and their families admitted to
the Women's and Children’s Hospital with ear, nose and throat conditions.
- Provides home support and counselling to families who have a child with
a tracheostomy.
- Facilitates discharge planning for long term inpatients with ear, nose
and throat conditions.
- Provides referrals for home suction units and other related tracheostomy
equipment.
- Is a clinical resource to many nursing and affiliated health professionals
in South Australia, and has strong links with Ears, Nose and Throat nurses
around Australia and overseas.
- Provides written nursing standards of care as well as education material
on paediatric tracheostomy care for families and health professionals

Any child/family can contact the ENT Clinical Nurse Consultant about ENT or
tracheostomy care.

Support and information is available for families who have a child with a tracheostomy:
- Linking families with the parent support group
- Quarterly Parent newsletter - "TracheosotmyTales"
- Support and education about day to day tracheostomy care and trouble shooting
- Updates on products and how to access equipment
Resources/publications
The ENT Clinical Nurse Consultant is a member of the Otolaryngology, Head and
Neck Nurses Group.
You can contact the ENT Clinical Nurse Consultant about available educational
tools on Paediatric tracheostomy care.
A quarterly newsletter on paediatric tracheostomy issues is available for health
professionals.
Hours
Service Hours are Monday - Thursday 8am - 4pm.
For emergency care the WCH Paediatric Emergency Department is available 24 hours
a day, 7 days per week.
