Department of Paediatric SurgeryThe WCH Department of Paediatric Surgery is the main referral centre for complex paediatric surgical conditions and provides a service in South Australia which covers the Northern Territory and some regional centres in Victoria and New South Wales. The department has a world class Burns Service and works closely with the Antenatal Birth Defects Counselling Service at the WCH. How to access the serviceAppointments can be made for your child to be seen in the public outpatient clinic without charge. Your child will need a referral from a registered medical practitioner to attend this clinic. You may also choose to see a surgeon of your choice in the private clinics conducted at the WCH. Overseas non Medicare patients are seen in these clinics. Charges will apply. The Department also provides a 24 hour emergency surgical service. Ambulatory patients should come to the Emergency Department at the WCH. Surgeons and the Surgical Registrar may be contacted after hours through the Hospital switchboard (08) 8161 7000. WardsAll procedures are performed in the Rogerson Theatre Complex. Elective patients will be cared for in the Day of Surgery Admissions (DOSA) Ward. Day Surgery cases are nursed after surgery in the Day Surgery Ward, and overnight stay patients in Campbell Ward . Emergeny or predicted longer stay cases will be cared for in the appropriate ward for their age: Rose Ward -age less than 6 months Newland Ward -most children Adolescent Ward -adolescents.
