Antenatal Gynaecology Ward

Care is provided for
  • women with high risk pregnancies with complications requiring medical support
  • women with gynaecological problems
  • women following surgery.

The ward has 29 beds, 13 antenatal, 11 gynaecology, and 5 postnatal. Antenatal care includes assessment of maternal and fetal well-being, planning for birth, and education. Gynaecology care includes pre-operative assessment and preparation for surgery, and post-operative care. Postnatal care includes care of mothers and their babies, including breastfeeding support and education.

The ward is staffed by midwives, who work in conjunction with medical staff, dieticians, physiotherapists, and social workers. Staff liaise with many services, including Aboriginal services, Drug and Alcohol Services, SA Multiple Birth Association and Child and Youth Health.

Women may be admitted as public, private or midwifery group practice patients. Admissions are managed through Women's Admissions or Women's Assessment Service.

Information for Families

Visiting hours are from 10am to 8pm.

Rooms are either single or share, with telephone and television facilities available for each bed.

Facilities available on the ward for women include kitchen, sitting room, craft room and laundry.
