Social Work

Social Work - Women's Allied Health

Social Workers promote the quality of life for women and their families by:

  • helping to resolve issues and concerns through counselling and advice. This is in relation to the social, emotional, behavioural and practical implications of women’s situations.
  • providing information about community agencies and resources.
  • helping with hospital admissions and treatment requirements or decision making options
  • speaking on behalf of patients or their family, when necessary, within the hospital system.

Social workers provide services for inpatients and outpatients in the areas of antenatal, postnatal and gynaecological care and the Family Advisory Unit.

How to access the service

Any patient may contact Social Work directly by telephone or in person.

Referrals for social work assistance can also be made by any member of the hospital treating team and by community agencies. It is preferable that  referrals to a WCH Social Worker are made with the patient's knowledge and agreement. People should feel free to speak to a social worker for advice on the best way of referring.

Individual social workers make their own arrangements regarding availability out of hours.

An after hours service for crisis situations is available by contacting the Hospital Coordinator via the hospital switchboard (08) 8161 7000.

Hours

Weekdays 9am-5pm

A weekend service is provided for inpatients.
