The Centre for Education and Training provides training, education, courses and educational support for all CYWHS nursing, midwifery and medical staff and for other healthcare professionals

Digital Media is a department within the Centre for Education and Training and provides professional photography, film/video, interactive media, illustration, animation and graphics design services.

The Centre coordinates an extensive program of activities for medical, nursing and midwifery, allied health and other health professionals.

Nursing and Midwifery Education Postgraduate programs

The Centre for Education and Training provide postgraduate nursing and midwifery education programs in the areas of paediatric nursing studies, paediatric critical care, paediatric at risk and emergency nursing, neonatal nursing, midwifery studies, at risk pregnancy and midwifery refresher/re-entry Some programs are conducted in collaboration with other health centres. Nurses and midwives from around the State can also access these programs.

Credit arrangements exist between CYWHS and Flinders University of SA so that staff can receive credit for further postgraduate study

Graduate Nurse and Midwife Programs

The Centre conducts both graduate nurse and graduate midwife programs, and facilitates placements for students undertaking Nursing Honours with universities as a part of the Graduate Nurse Program.

Diploma in Child Health (SA)

The Diploma in Child Health is a one year postgraduate course. The objectives are to provide a goal-directed learning program in a wide range of aspects of child health for medical graduates whose practice may involve children’s health. The course is co-ordinated at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital (WCH), North Adelaide.

Staff Development Education for Nurses and Midwives

The Centre provides modular programs and study days specifically directed at meeting the educational needs of nurses and midwives in the CYWHS. The program for 2006 can be accessed here.

Mandated Training

The Centre offers training in mandatory subjects such as:

  • Child Safe Environments: Reporting child Abuse & Neglect (Mandated Notification) – on-line 
  • CPR - Bookings Essential (Ring 81617140 for Bookings)
  • Fire Training
  • Manual Handling

Needs Based Study Days

The following topics are offered to CYWHS staff; however, external participants may be eligible to attend. Contact the Course Coordinator to make enquiries:

Ward Based Education

The Centre develops and coordinates ward based education packages and programs.

    • Male Catheterisation
    • Blood Sugar Level Estimation
    • Epidural Management
    • IV cannulation accreditation
    • Perineal suturing accreditation
    • Neonatal Assessment and Discharge
    • Gynaecological Health
    • Midwifery Care and Entenox Accreditation.

On-line Education

The Centre has made exciting developments in developing on-line learning for health professionals and allied staff.

We have a

    • Clinical Skills Website
    • Child Safe Environments: Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect (Mandated Notification)

and are developing a package for Fire Safety and Aggression Management.

Enrolled Nurse Education

The Centre values the contribution that Enrolled Nurses make to the health and welfare of patients at the CYWHS. We collaborate with the RAH to offer a post enrolment program for Enrolled Nurses.

Our administration staff will take your call and forward your enquiry regarding any of our programs to the appropriate personnel.

We have an annual calendar which details our programs for the year.

While the focus of the Centre is on education and training activities for CYWHS staff, some courses are available for health professionals working in other institutions.
