The Parenting Network

The Parenting Network

The Parenting Network offers support to first time parents who are facing particular challenges and need extra help. Parent support workers are matched with the family and work with them in their home.  Parents are also able to attend special groups and parent drop in mornings.

Families are given practical support in accessing a range of services including health, housing, financial and legal services as well as practical help with parenting. The program recruits in both the WCH and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital antenatal clinics and offers support during pregnancy through to the early childhood years.

The program has developed innovative approaches to working with Fathers, families from culturally diverse backgrounds as well as providing services to all eligible families in the catchment area.

The program is based at the Parks Community Centre and services families in the Port Adelaide local government area. The program integrates with the Adelaide Central Community Health Service, regional Child and Youth Health teams and other agencies. Members of the multidisciplinary team have extensive experience in working with children and families and knowledge of the community and services available. Parent Support Workers complete a comprehensive training program prior to working with families.

The Parenting Network is part of the WCH's Children and Families Integration Service.

How to access the service

The PNP hospital liaison midwife sees people in the antenatal clinics and assesses their level of need. Referrals can be made by hospital staff, doctors and community agencies.  Parents may also access the service without a referral.

To be eligible for the program, parents must live in the Port Adelaide Enfield local government area and be having their first experience of parenting.

Referrals to the program can be made by contacting Eloise Wright, Hospital Liaison Worker on 0417 849255 or pager 18081 or contacting the Parenting Network on (08) 8243 5544.
