Adolescent Ward (Children's)

Adolescent Ward is an 18-bed ward that delivers developmentally appropriate inpatient care and treatment to young people aged between 12 and 18 years with acute and chronic health issues.

Adolescent Ward is an 18-bed ward that delivers developmentally-appropriate inpatient care and treatment to young people aged between 12 and 18 years with acute and chronic health issues. The multidisciplinary team provide physical care, treatment, emotional support, advocacy and education.

Adolescent Ward works closely with Adolescent Medicine and the Department of General Medicine in providing specialist management to patients with eating disorders.

Adolescent Ward has a team of permanent and temporary nursing staff and offers placements to graduate nurses and nursing students.

Room allocation is based on medical need – therefore, you may be allocated to a shared room. We make every effort to accommodate your room preferences where possible.

Visiting hours

Parents and Guardians may visit the ward at any time unless otherwise agreed by the treatment team.

All other visitors may visit between 9.00am – 8.30pm.

One parent is permitted to stay overnight only. Some rooms are equipped with a parent bed. There are a number of fold-out beds and recliners available for parents to use.

Parent Facilities

The 'Parents Retreat' is located just outside Adolescent Ward and provides tea, coffee and other amenities. Please ask a member of staff for directions and the code to access the Parents Retreat.

What to bring

  • Pyjamas, underwear and spare clothing
  • Toiletries
  • School work
  • Personal items e.g. laptop, iPad, books, craft etc.

Each room provides a safe to lock up valuables. Please do not leave your valuables unattended. The hospital does not take responsibility for the theft or loss of valuables.
