Kate Hill Ward provides care to babies, children and teenagers admitted for elective or emergency surgical care. We aim to work in partnership with you during your child's admission.
The primary group of patients admitted to Kate Hill Ward are under the following Surgical Clinics:
- Orthopaedics
- Craniofacial
- Neurosurgery
- Ear, Nose and Throat
- Eyes
- Gynaecology
How to access this service
Visiting hours
Parents and carers are welcome at all times.
Other visitors are welcome between 10am and 8pm.
Please remind visitors that your child may need to rest.
You may wish to make arrangements for other siblings to be cared for while you are visiting, particularly if your child is very tired.
Anyone visiting, including family members with any infectious illness, upset stomach, skin infection or cold must not come to the hospital.
Please wash your hands before entering the ward.

Facilities and Services
The ward is a combination of shared bay and rooms that can be used as single patient rooms. Room and bed spaces are given to patients based on their needs. Our single rooms are used for if their condition requires a single room or for infection control reasons (protect from infection or stop spreading of infection).
The Surgical Wards 'Parents Room' is available for parents, caregivers and family to use at any time. There is a supply of tea and coffee, a microwave and fridge, shower and toilet facilities. For parents living in, a basic breakfast is provided if required.
Meals and snacks are provided to patients. There is a cafe available to purchase meals for parents or caregivers.
One parent or caregiver is welcome to stay in the ward overnight. Fold out sofa beds or recliner chairs with linen is provided.
There is a playroom with a range of games, toys and activities. Monday to Friday there is a Play Therapist who can assist with activities. The ward is visited by the Starlight Captain's and Clown Doctors.
Each bed space has a television with some free to air channels and options to purchase additional packages.
Car parking is available on or near the hospital grounds.
