Blood Disorders and Cancer

This Department of Clinical Haematology/Oncology cares for children who require investigation and treatment of haematological disorders, cancer including brain tumours, and diseases requiring bone marrow transplantation.

The Michael Rice Centre for Haematology and Oncology

Our vision is to provide the best care for all children and adolescents who require investigation and treatment of blood disorders (haematology), cancer (oncology) and diseases requiring bone marrow transplantation. We commit to always place the patient in the centre of all we do. We shall always provide treatments with compassion and care.

The haematology and oncology team consists of specialists in health care, education, music therapy, play therapy, research, spiritual care and administration. Our team members are highly trained and always work in partnership with patients and their families.

The Michael Rice Centre for Haematology and Oncology is a member of international research groups such as the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). The team also has strong links with other hospitals around the country. These networks help patients access highly specialised treatment which may only be offered in a small number of centres in the world. These links help ensure that state-of-the-art treatments are available for all patients.
