Department of Paediatric Surgery

The WCH Department of Paediatric Surgery is the main referral centre for complex paediatric surgical conditions and provides a service in South Australia which covers the Northern Territory and some regional centres in Victoria and New South Wales.

The department has a world class WCH page link iconBurns Service and works closely with the Antenatal Birth Defects Counselling Service at the WCH.

The Paediatric Surgery Department has a Nurse Consultant who will help case manage and support families of children with complex surgical needs, patients with an increased length of stay, and children with wounds.

How to access the service

Appointments can be made for your child to be seen in the public outpatient clinic. Your child will need a referral from a registered medical practitioner to attend this clinic.

Overseas non-Medicare patients will be seen in clinics with a written referral, and charges will apply.

The Department also provides a 24 hour emergency surgical service.  Ambulatory patients should come to the Emergency Department at the WCH.  Surgeons and the Surgical Registrar may be contacted after hours through the Hospital switchboard (08) 8161 7000.
